More Storms in Arkansas

So last night, we had another round of storms.  Surprise! Surprise!  Tyler and I had no electricity all night and all of this morning.  That being said,  I had to find ways to entertain myself.  I started off trying my luck at capturing lightening on camera.

This is my first attempt.  I know it looks like a flash but it is really lightening.

P1010865

This was my second shot.  I was pretty proud of it except that it was blurry.

P1010867

Finally, I caught a glimpse of the lightening.  It is really there, and no it is not a scratch or piece of thread.

P1010868Tyler and I sat in our trailer trying to keep safe.  We were ready to run if we needed to, but luckily, it was just a severe thunderstorm.  However, when the storm had mostly passed we still needed some entertainment.

2 bored people + camera + a bright flash = this…

P1010876The lack of electricity this morning did motivate to complete some homework.  I studied for my microbiology lab exam tomorrow and completed a microbiology project.  After I had postponed it long enough, I finally started on my university writing reading assignment.  I am so glad that I only have 2 weeks of school left (mainly because of this class).  YAY!!!!  However, I have a full load of summer classes.  Since our trailer park was the only area without electricity last night (or so it seemed), Tyler and I jumped in his truck, after the big part of the storm had passed, to run up the road to the college parking lot.  I had an online quiz that I needed to complete, and since we had no electricity and no internet we took my books and laptop to a place where we could get WiFi.

Finally, I took this last picture of Daisy and Tyler this morning.  I was finishing up some homework when I turned around to see Daisy placed on her thrown, and Tyler smiling proud.  Daisy is not allowed on the furniture when I am around because she sheds very badly.  However, Tyler loves to put her on the furniture when I am not looking.  I guess it is ok to put her on the furniture if she stays on her pillow.

April Showers Bring…

Well it has been raining storming ALL week which has caused me to have little sleep because of a sweet little dog that is terrified of thunder.  However, I have been able to get more sleep since she has found her new hiding spot.  P1010855 She has discovered the clothes hamper.  I have no idea HOW or WHY she found this spot, but it makes her so much more calm.  In fact, that is where she is right now.  This rain has caused me to be trapped inside and want to eat ALL THE TIME.  It is only 4:20 and I have been thinking about dinner since 2:30.  I am probably going to start some hamburger helper after this post.  The rain has also caused me to miss parts of my favorite shows including Survivor and American Idol.  Last night, I missed Casey kissing Jennifer and who got voted off Survivor.  I had to find the Survivor episode on cbs.com this morning and watch the end.  Luckily, I have a rain boots (thanks Momma Speer) and a half way decent umbrella to help me through all this rain.  I took this picture of my yard this afternoon, and that is a bunch rain.  P1010863 I did not have much else going on today but I mainly wanted to show Daisy’s new hiding spot. LOL.  Enjoy the rain. :)

Wrapping up the weekend…

I have had such a busy couple of weeks and it shows with my lack of blogs.  This week, I am looking forward to the end of Wednesday.  Right now, I am postponing some homework.  I have a microbiology test and three summaries for university writing due Wednesday.  Anyways, my weekend was pretty crazy itself.  I missed micro Friday so that I could make it back to Mena with enough time to fix Manda’s hair for Acorn’s prom.  I had about an hour to fix her hair and makeup.  Since I am SUPER-SISTER, the task was successfully completed.  It was freezing Friday afternoon, so I was lucky that all the pictures I took were not blurry.  I did not take many pictures with my camera but I did grab a few.

P1010845

Saturday was the Speer family Easter and Manda’s second prom.  The Easter celebration was at 1:30 and I had to be fixing Manda’s hair at 2:15.  I didn’t have a lot of time at the Easter celebration so Saturday morning I decided to head over to the Speer house early.  I was really glad I did too.  Something that I hadn’t mentioned earlier was that Tyler was away working and we weren’t even sure if he would be able to make it on Saturday.  However, the sweet husband that he is showed up to surprise me.  And boy did he!!!  I started balling.  Relatives started showing up shortly after that and we eventually got to eat.  I pretty much just swallowed all my food and then zoomed home to pretty Manda up for prom.  Since I wasn’t at the Speer house for all the activities, I didn’t get that many pictures.

Christopher loves riding four-wheelers just as much as he loves his Uncle Bubba.

I felt like a proud momma when I was finished with Manda’s hair.

bunny cakes and classes

I haven’t had a very productive week.  I have pretty much just gone to school, then home, school, home, etc.  Today, however, I finally broke the old boring routine.  After a horrible night of sleep, I finally rolled out of bed and started my day.  I had big plans to make a cake for the Speer family Easter celebration this Saturday.  I wasn’t going to make just any cake but a “Bunny Cake.”  I had found some pictures and directions on how to take two round cakes and make a cake that looks like a bunny.

The first thing I had to do after purchasing the goodies was gather all my ingredients and equipment.

P1010834

After that, I had to come up with a design of how I wanted my bunny to look.  Obviously, it took a couple of drafts.  There are even more on the bottom of this sheet, but they started looking a little possessed.

P1010837

This is the scene after my many icing color mixes.

P1010838

This was the final product.  I was so proud.  The hardest part was a toss up between trying to find a tray big enough for him and icing the sides of the bunny.

On another note, today I got to figure out and plan my schedule for the next few semesters.  I am so excited to begin the journey towards my degree in dietetics.  I am taking two summer classes this year.  I will take one in June and the other in July.  Unfortunately, this means that I will probably be unable to go on vacation with my family when they go to the beach.  I will be taking 16 hours in the fall, and they are Monday through Friday.  All in all, it is not a horrible schedule, but I am pretty nervous about Business Statistics.  If all goes well, I will be graduating in two years.  HIPHIPHOORAY!!!

Tonight, I have been working on some university writing homework.  It is actually one of the few times that she actually sent us home with an assignment.  However, I have become so confused on what I am supposed to be writing that I am unable to completely finish.  Hopefully, tomorrow I will be able to go to class and get some help.  On American Idol tonight, I got very disappointed with the results.  Paul McDonald went home.  I was so upset.  I loved his voice, pearly whites, and quirkiness on stage.  I hope everybody has a safe night through the storms headed towards Arkansas.

Hairstylist

My favorite thing about blogging is knowing that in a few years I will be able to go back and read all the stories I have written.  This past week I have viewed some of my favorite blogs and read some of their blogs from years back.  It was very entertaining and allowed me to relive some of their life events.  I also really enjoyed the pictures.  I know in years down the road I will look back at pictures from my blog and think, “what was I thinking?'” (Not that I thought that about all the pictures I saw.)

Friday after school, I packed up my stuff and headed to Mena to play hairdresser with my sister.  Friday night my dad, sister, and I made dinner, and then at about nine o’clock Manda and I finally started practicing hair for her prom next weekend.  She told me that I only have about 15 to 30 minutes to do her hair Friday for her boyfriend Macen’s Acorn prom.  Luckily, I will have 1 1/2 to 2 hours on Saturday for her prom.  It took forever to figure out Saturday’s do, but at about midnight we had finally figured it out.  I took a few pictures so I would know how to do it next weekend.  The first picture shows the hairstyle for Macen’s prom and the second shows the hairstyle for Manda’s prom on Saturday.  They do look a little similar in the pictures but they are actually totally different.

P1010830P1010832I guess after I finish my degree in dietetics, I can go back and go to beauty school. (HaHaHaHa!!!!!)  I do not think I could ever go back to school when I finish.  I know by the time I graduate I will be finished with studying for LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG time.  Well, right now I am watching Grease 2, and afterwards I have to head to the store.  I would really like to have some food for the week.  I also have some university writing homework that I cannot wait to get started on later today.  I hope everybody enjoys the weather and has had a great weekend.

American Idol and Random Thoughts

Wednesday is finally over and the rest of the week is all downhill from here.  Today is going to be a pretty laid back day.  I do not have class and do not have any plans of going anywhere.  I am going to try to clean a little house and possibly complete a little homework.  I have really enjoyed this semester with not having class every day of the week.  I know I just got lucky with the schedule, and I know that next semester will not be as easy.  Last night I watched Survivor and American Idol.  This year the American Idol competition is so hard.  I do not even have just one person that I love but six.

These are the two country singers, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina.  I love me some country and they both have such unique voices.  I honestly do not see Scotty going all the way to the end but he will definitely be on country radio at the end of the Idol experience.  He has such a deep voice.  Lauren is such a sweet heart and I think she will also be on country radio in the future

ai.scottyai.lauren

These next three are Haley Reinhart, Paul McDonald, and James Durbin.  They are also all so unique.  Haley has a bluesy, scratchy voice that I love.  Paul has a unique and quirky voice and performance.  Then there is James and he is the rocker.

My last favorite is Casey Abrams.  He has a growl when he sings.  I also do not see him winning the competition but I do believe he will have a future in the music industry.

On another note, I have decided that it is probably a good idea that Tyler and I do not live close to any family because we totally drink juice from the carton.  I had never done it until I moved out on my own and I did not want to get a glass out for just a small swig.  However, I do not sit at the couch with a carton of juice.  The only time I drink out of the carton is when I need to take my vitamins and I don’t want to get a glass out for three swallows.  I know that was a very random thought but it came to mind as I drank from the carton this morning.  :)  If you ever come to the Speer house, it would probably be a good idea to ask for a drink that comes from a can or a pitcher.  Just saying…

A little bit of this…

As of tomorrow I will be officially Britney Speer!!!  Today after a good lunch with Stephanie I headed towards Hot Springs to finally file for my name change on my social security card.  I really do not know why I procrastinated so long because it was fairly easy and only took about 45 minutes.  On another note,  I woke up this morning to no electricity.  It was off for at least two hours.  Since everybody was either at work or school, I had nobody to talk to, and I had no television or internet. So I sat on the couch and had nice big bowl of cereal in the quiet.  (I could seriously survive on cereal.)

Yesterday started out as a pretty stormy day.  Daisy was naturally freaking out and before Tyler and I even knew it was storming, she jumped in bed with us.  I did not even know she could jump on the bed.  When I made it to school, the electricity kept going on and off in my first class.  However, that did not stop my teacher from teaching in the dark.

I received an email yesterday that said today was One Day Without Shoes.  It is a challenge to individuals to see how long they can go without shoes.  Its purpose was to help raise awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child.  I read in the email that in Ethiopia, approximately 1 million people are suffering from a debilitating disease called podoconiosis, which is 100% preventable with basic hygiene and shoes.  I have not been able to go without shoes all day but I plan to keep my shoes off the rest of the evening.

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago and had almost forgotten about it.  That zebra square to the left of Daisy is her pillow.  She hardly ever lays completely on her pillow but this night she was not even close.

The last few days…

So I have not blogged in couple days, but my excuse is that I have been gathering information.  I did not blog Thursday because I had a big night of TV planned.  Good excuse, right??  Shows like American Idol, The Big Bang Theory, Rules of Engagement, and finally Grey’s Anatomy came on.  I was surprised that Tyler watched them all with me.  However, during Grey’s he did get a little antsy.  This week’s episode was a musical and even though the music was great, Tyler was not a fan.  I was, on the other hand, thrilled.  After the many shows of the night, Tyler and I were playing a game.  (We both get our iPod music out and see if each other can guess what song the other has playing by just listening to the first few seconds.)  Anyways, I found a song by Savage Garden called Truly Madly Deeply, and it got me thinking about middle school dances and how I never really had a date to dance with.  So Tyler went and put my iPod on the mount for the speakers and asked me to dance.  It was so sweet.  We did, however, dance a little bit closer than middle school regulations. :) The best piece of advise I have received since marriage is to continue dating your spouse and it is nights like this when I realize we still are.

Friday was a little bit more chill.  I had school until 2 and then later Tyler and I went to Wal*Mart to get a few odd and end items.  We did go through the clearance aisle and I found a LED night light for the kitchen.  The main reason we went was so that Tyler could get some contact solution and air fresheners for his truck.  Since we were there we also grabbed some candy for our Saturday movie.  After we left Wal*Mart, we realized that we were hungry but nothing at the trailer sounded good.  Therefore, we went to TaMolly’s for dinner.   After dinner we did not do much.

Saturday was more productive.  We went to Texarkana.  I was super excited and had been thinking about it all week.  We know Tyler is going to start getting pretty busy with his job and did not know if we would get another chance anytime soon.  When we got to town, we went to the Bee Hive shoe store first.  I had my eye out for a new pair of black high heels and a pair of black dress boots.  Unfortunately, I never found exactly what I was looking for.  Next we drove around McClarty Ford for some dream car shopping.  There we were stalked by salesman on golf carts.  It was getting close to lunch but neither of us were starving yet so we went to Home Zone for a little dream furniture shopping.  There we were stalked by a salesman, but this time he was on foot.  After Home Zone, Tyler and I headed for Olive Garden.  It was so yummy.  I have to admit I am not a huge fan of the salad because I don’t like the dressing but boy do I love the bread sticks and Chicken Alfredo.  After we had stuffed ourselves we decided that we would head to the mall to find Tyler some new church shirts.  It was a failure.  Next we went to Kohl’s. (I love this store.)  We found three church shirts and one other nice shirt for Tyler.  We had planned to see a 4:25 showing of Limitless at the movies and after we left Kohl’s we still had some time so we went to Best Buy.  There we got Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  I now have a complete collection (until the others come out on dvd).  We went to the movies next.  It was not a terrible movie but it was not our favorite movie.  We both agreed that it seemed like the previews played it off a little differently.  After the movie, we were not ready to head back to Arkadelphia, and we were not hungry, so we went and visited with Uncle Mike and Sister.  I am pretty sure that our visit just made there day.  When we left there we went and ate at Taco Bell and then drove home.  It was such a great day.  I brought my camera along for the ride but forgot to take pictures most of the day.  I did manage to capture a few though.

P1010825Tyler was naturally ready before me, so this is where I found him before we left.  He has been playing the new Socom Beta getting ready for the new release on April 19th.    P1010826

I took this picture of myself right before we left.

P1010829I took this picture right before we left the driveway.

Today I have plans to do some laundry, clean a little house, clean out my car, and end the day with some super exciting English homework…
